Basic Stretching Exercises : Supine Hamstring Stretch

This next traditional stretch is called the
Supine Hamstring Stretch. This is a great stretch for people who have been running or
doing all kinds of sports, athletic activities. So we’re going to lengthen those hamstrings
out. I deal with a lot of athletes that have issues, so here is a really great stretch
you can do. Extend this leg all the way down on the floor, take your other leg up. Now
if you don’t have the flexibility to perform all the way out, you can soften this other
knee bending it and then you can pull this leg in a little bit more. Now what I recommend
is if you’ve got really tight hamstrings and you can’t straighten out that knee, find a
point where you can straighten out your knee and then work on bringing that leg in closer
toward your body. So start with that. Now, utilize your breath in this stretch. Inhale
deeply through your nose, exhale completely through your mouth, drawing that leg in as
close to your body as you can. Keep your knees straight. Now as you’re stretching you want
to hold your stretches anywhere between thirty and sixty seconds and then just switch legs.
And that is your Supine Hamstring Stretch.
