Bellevue Chiropractor Discusses Effective Knee Pain Treatment

Hey guys, welcome back; Dr. Kevin here talking
to you today about knee pain. Knee pain has a lot of causes and quite frankly, the straight
up truth on the matter is just about all knee pain is treatable without surgery. The reason
for that is even knees that have been severely degenerated, it all has to do with inflammation
and circulation. If you can improve the circulation and decrease inflammation, and then of course
strengthen the condition of the supporting musculature, we can get rid of your knee pain
and get you back to your tennis and your golf and your pickleball and whatever other sport
that you need those knees for. Around here people do a lot of hiking too; hiking up and
down those mountain trails, you’ve got to have good knees. So the knee anatomy is pretty
simple, you’ve got got basically three bones; a big leg bone coming out of your hip called
the femur, a tibia and fibula coming down up from your foot, and it all connects together
with the knee cap sitting right on top. Normal movement of the bones go like this, and then
you have things called the meniscus and the collateral ligaments. These are the sources,
primarily, of most knee pain is in these tissues. Degenerative conditions of the knee happen
when the meniscus begins to shrink, and much like the spine as the bones come closer and
closer together, more irritation and inflammation becomes present. How we take care of you here,
number one, is always at the root cause of treatment for knee pain is our high intensity
laser therapy. Laser therapy has been around a very long time, it’s proven the time tested
ability to lower inflammation and increase circulation without drugs, without surgery.
Then we go into extensive rehabilitation of the supportive structure; what does that mean?
That means strengthening the muscles on the top of the leg, on the back of the leg, of
both the lower leg and upper leg, as well as making sure the nervous system connects
between your back and the knee, and the knee and your brain. That’s about it, the most
important thing of course is a proper evaluation, and that’s what we’ll do the first day that
we see you. So that’s what I’ve got for you on the knee, a little helpful tip for you,
of course that’s one of the safe ways to strengthen your knees, if you can tolerate it, is to
do a wall sit. Start with just five seconds; lean yourself up against the wall, put a small
bend in your knee, as you get stronger and stronger you’ll be able to get into almost
a seated position and try to hold it for a minute. If you have any questions on that,
give us a call here at the Bellevue Pain Institute. This is Dr. Kevin signing off – live large
at any age.
