How Did Life Begin?

How Did Life Begin?

Scientists in Georgia think they might’ve
figured out how all life started on Earth. Yeah, we’re about to get real. Strap in. Anthony for DNews and if there’s one question
we all want the answer to it’s “Where did we come from?” Researchers at Georgia Institute of Technology
think they’ve figured out a crucial component of the answer. So, about 3.5 billion years ago, the earth
was a lifeless, oxygen free environment. At some point,
bacteria formed and started converting all the carbon dioxide and methane and ammonia
and turning it into oxygen. But we’ve never been sure where that bacteria
came from. Earth’s oceans at the time were filled with
all kinds of minerals, including iron. If you’ve ever heard the term “primordial
soup,” that’s what we’re talking about, earth’s original atmosphere and mineral-filled ocean. So the idea is that in the soup were all the
things you need to make RNA- the RNA interacted with something, some sort of chemical reaction
or spark or something, and started creating that bacteria- and all life on earth. There have always been a couple problems with
that theory- the first is that RNA isn’t really capable of making life on its own. Your DNA has all the instructions for making
you and the ability to transfer that information. RNA basically acts as a messenger, taking
the instructions from your DNA and using them to make proteins. Without DNA and protein-based enzymes, RNA
doesn’t survive. The second is that there was nothing in the
environment that anyone could find that would jumpstart the ability to create life. One theory is that lightning did it- another
is an impact from space. But here’s what the team in Georgia found-
If they recreated the primordial soup in a chamber, RNA changed- it behaved differently
in an environment without oxygen. It was almost like it reactivated a function
it hadn’t used in billions of years. It shape-shifted and all of a sudden became
an instruction-carrier, kind of like DNA – and when they teamed it up with that iron from
the soup, it performed a single-electron transfer. That means that it jumpstarted the reactions
needed for photosynthesis and respiration. RNA together with iron created the basis for
an eating, breathing thing. BOOM. LIFE ON EARTH. Bacteria forms, oxygen is transferred into
the atmosphere, and 3.5 billion years later we’re all reblogging sloth gifs on tumblr. Now, there are still holes in this theory. If you asked “Hey, where did that RNA come
from in the beginning of the world,” you’re asking the right question. All the components of RNA were in the soup,
but they’re not components that like to bond easily- though there have been some successes
in making it happen in a lab. How crazy is that! RNA, this molecule that we thought was so
simple, that we thought we knew everything about, was way more adaptive than we thought. Maybe there’s a way to create it that we haven’t
thought of, and then we’ll be even closer to figuring out where we came from. The origin of all life! So rad. What’s the biggest question you want science
to answer? Let me know down below and subscribe for more

  1. And, If The HUMAN RACE, Does Have Any Alien Any, "ALIENANIC, ANCESTORS",…. Then, I Will, MOST CERTAINLY, (100%), "T.E.R.M.I.N.A.T.E Them" Every, Single, "Fucking" One. One- Hundred, "Fucking", Percent. , Especially, For The, "Unworthy

  2. "RNA, together with IRON, then a SPARK, Boom! First life!" He must have a lot of faith. The first single celled life form carried more information in its DNA than 1000, 30 volume sets of encyclopedias. Libraries don't come about by mindless processes. He's got a lot more to explain for me to take this idea seriously.

  3. It's just not that simple. In order for just one protein molecule to form everything, every particle in the chain that makes up DNA/RNA, has to come together simultaneously and the odds of one of those forming randomly are so astronomically high there is not enough time for that chance mutation to form anywhere – even if every star we estimate is out there had a habitable planet; probability dictates the universe would have to be at least 10^18 times as old as it is for this to probably occur somewhere in the observable universe. The only way this could be true is if the universe and/or all the dimensions of parallel bubble universes were infinite or the elementary organic particle would self assemble because they were programmed that way (that's been tested and never observed) or there really is a creator, but since I'm an atheist (with a biology degree) I prefer programmer.

  4. I don’t know if you find a answer and you explain stupid way am not satisfied but I’d think about it after you Find DNA how DNA,,, “SURF”

  5. But in a lab you can control the environment, back in time billions of years ago the environment is not the same as the lab. . .

  6. Am I the only one who feels that many seeker videos are clickbait videos with no clear answers to the questions posed in each of their video titles?

  7. For the people in the comments, this is not to sway your opinion or anything. But there are no truths in this world. Science is not a known truth, it’s all theory, just like religion is all faith lol. Believe what you want to believe.

  8. Even if you create this theory in a lab, you still had someone put it together. Do you not understand how complex life is? And you want us to believe we exist by chance? A soup came alive? How does anyone believe this?

  9. It is not about not understanding science; therefore, God did it. It is more about acknowledging that certain things are beyond human intelligence. Yes, you might be an expert in the laws of physics, but is that knowledge enough to give you the power to create a planet? Nature is not able to process information; how can nature that cannot process information have the ability to evolve a brain, an organ that can process information? Nature, which includes planets, that cannot process information cannot formulate the laws of physics; which is why planets can only obey the laws of physics that someone or some thing that can process information had formulated.

  10. LIAR!! YOU FREAKIN LIAR! GOD CREATED EVERYTHING! I MEAN EVERY BIT! SHUT UP AND TELL THE TRUTH YOU NONBELIEVER OF GOD! GOD CREATED EVERYTHING! OK! THATS THE TRUTH! NOT HOW BACTERIA AND STUFF MADE THE WORLD! THATS A FACT! IM DISAPPOINTED IN YOU!

  11. The other big question is, what or how did the Big Bang happened if there was nothing before. I mean before we had stars or galaxies…. how did the explosion happen if there is literally nothing. From nothing you can’t make an explosion. So what caused the explosion and where r those things coming from (the cold storm and the warm storm) that caused the explosion? Where r they from?

  12. Religious people say “if it turns out god didn’t create life on earth and the whole thing is a lie it would be the most important thing in the history of the world” it’s been proved you stupid fucks just accept it

  13. Someone is separating science from religion. Yeah we dont understand everything yet but maybe God is te greatest scientist of all time

  14. Either life began as a chemical reaction between some kind of matter and energy or a magical sky fairy/peeping tom who likes to punish the imperfect creatures he created did it. I'm going with chemical reaction.

  15. Oxygen free atmosphere? That means ther was no ozone layer, which means that there was no protection from the sun's radiation, which means any life that could have formed (which is impossible not improbable) would have been destroyed.

The stupidity of atheism (not science) amazes me.

  16. I just want to know how the new animal form in our world with such a huge body shape and lots of function in the beginning of our world

  17. I understand science and I believe in creation. True science (not theory) is supported by the Bible' s teaching.

  18. Only 1 in 10^74 sequences of amino acids is a functional protein. The chance of a single protein forming out of chace any where in the universe is zero.
There has to be intelligence involved.

  19. Those who ask where God came from never heard of philosophy. God is not a contingent being, he is a necessary being. He is beyond space, time and matter. Therefore, he needs no cause.

    Only contingent beings need causes.

  20. To suggest that the primordial soup put all of the structure for rna together and then magically bonded together and then lightning forced it to duplicate itself without a nucleus or a membrane is like saying that an earthquake not only caused rocks to make a rough brick, but that it made a thousand bricks, mortar, and then threw them into a house. The more we learn is science, the more we realize a creator is needed.

  21. So it still comes back to this:
"A machine, more complex than anything humans have ever made, came from a random chemical reaction."
It's like me seeing a big lego space ship and convincing myself that someone threw a bucket of lego up in the air and it just happened to fall in such a way it built a model of the Mellenial Falcon.
Surely a designer is more logical.
Atheisim is the new official relgion. You have to tow the party line.

  22. Well I can say, aliens already figure out how to make humanity, laugh all you want, they mastered the human race, we are just to stupid to accept it

  23. So many lies in the beginning God people are so blind. If you want to be made by soup that's your call

  24. THE BEGGINING OF LIFE ARE NEEDS STARTING TO STAR FOR BURNING THE DUST TO ADD THE GRAVITY TO DUST AND IF THE GRAVITY ARE ADDINGTO DUST USING OF BURNING THIS DUST WITH GRAVITY WILL SEPERATED TO THE BLACKHOLE OR AUTOMATICALY EXPLODED, AFTER THE EXPLOTION, THIS DUST ARE FORM INTO NEBULA IF THE NEBULA HAVE MANY FORM OF DESIGN THIS ARE READY TO BUILT A PLANET AFTER THE PLANET ARE BUILT THE LIFE ARE ARE STARTING TO BORN BY THE HELP OF POWER OF BLACKHOLE TO ACTIVATE THE SOIL OR NEBULA INTO DNA

  25. How about we accept that this is a question we cannot answer instead of lying to ourselves with these ridiculous theories.

  26. Nice try but you can't jump start photosynthesis without code. No scientist know where the code, information came from. The most plausible answer is in the bible.

  27. Why do you tell I lie and then make it longer than the truth? Genesis 1 says the world was created In 7 days not 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 years

  28. This is not science, maybe, we think, possibly, somehow etc. etc. These are wild scientific assumptions, speculations and imaginations. Science means to be clear and precise.

  29. He started by saying how life started on earth and after two words apparently he said scientist found where life started I feel like scientist especially atheists and agnostics well accept any answer as long it doesn't contains god in I'm not religious I actually hate it cuz it the reason why people don't want to even think about the idea of God cuz they see it from a religious point of Vue

  30. Stop voting for democrats forever ,…your taxes and rent goes up,…and milk goes to 5 $ per gallon,..along with gas,..when you vote for retards,…

  31. Why was there something in the first place? It freaks me out to think of a white blank infinite space. And out of nowhere there was explosions? Why were things exploding? Where did the energy to create the Big Bang come from? Why is there energy? What’s powering everything?? Why?

  32. Could you please write the first source again? It takes me the main page of la times. And the second source doesnt seem to be working either. Thanks

  33. Wouldnt the big bang have sterilized everything? We do the same thing for medical equipement and dont have anything of the sort on the equipement.

  34. Individual cells have their own electric charge; and if rna can spontaneously mutate under ideal conditions, hypothetically speaking one could engineer a living battery.

  35. this is actually biologically impossible , " somehow bacteria was created " ?? A cell is a very complex structure that cant be created by itself , there gotta be a creator at least for the first cell on earth

  36. What if god just future of ourselves travel back in time to create us🤔 not making any sense

  37. At 2:10 that’s a pretty ridiculous amount of stuff to boil down to a single “boom”. There is a looooooong way from RNA to a living bacterium.

  38. What would happen if we shot some primordial soup with RNA on the moon with the purpose of creating new life? Sure it'd take billions of years, but would that work?

  39. Talk n Talk…. Bla bla bla… Show the real evidence, on how non-living thing changed into living thing. You love soup, go to restaurant.

  40. I was expecting religious nut jobs to flood the comments…thank science they shut up for once.

  41. Who created anything. I mean from nothing. No space, time, mass, vacuum, quantum, multiverse or anything else that can be made up? The answer is Jesus. If you are really looking for true answers and I mean really looking for true answers look no further than Bible.

  42. Why does the mechanism to form RNA and DNA exist? Why is it implemented.

I would guess that alongside with other mechanisms on the unuverse, like that of physics, there is also the mechanism for life.

Now I would say GOD, but not the old man with the white beard, only the event that started everything.

  43. Idk why but i think that life is a simulation
I think that the multiverses are the different simulations, the galaxies in it are the Servers and the planets are the worlds.

  44. What was the food of the first cell? (Sugar come from organic living objects)
Why the RNA became in certain sequence?
Where did the first ribosome came from to transfer RNA into body?
Why it did not happen on other planets?

  45. What a let down. What he actually means is that scientists in Georgia realised RNA did slightly more than was already established. But that is not an answer to how life started. RNA cannot build itself and even if it could what about all the other stuff in a cell? Even the simplest cells are very complex. A hot spring or life springing in inhospitable environments on Earth doesn't help with the explanation either. We know life can exist in some extreme conditions, that is not in dispute. But how life started is in no way explained.
