How Do Tight, Stiff Muscles Affect My Joints? – David Silverberg, MD

If your muscles are
stiff around the joint, the joint is not going to
move through its full range of motion. Analogous to a tennis ball being
rolled on a piece of paper, if you roll it out for
a large length of time, that piece of paper
and the tennis ball sees a wide area where
it’s seeing forces. And if you have a
joint that’s stiff, that tennis ball doesn’t
quite roll as far. So, every time you
move the joint back and forth, it’s one little area
that is seeing all the stress. And over time, that
can wear the joint out.
