How to Find Trigger Points : Explanation of Muscles in Trunk of Body

DR. CHRIS MANGO: Hi. This is Dr. Chris Mango,
here in New York City. On behalf of Expert Village, we’re going to be taking a look at
trigger points today. So really more in the trunk or the main part of the body. Muscles
in this area are the muscles that are used to pretty much stabilize and hold yourself
in position, whereas the extremity muscles are more for movement. These muscles are the
ones that protect your spine, that hold your curves, allow you to bend, rotate, flex, extend.
The muscles in this group are the real common ones when people come in present with low
back pain or abdominal pains, or upper thoracic-type pains. So in next few minutes, I’m going to
show you some of the major muscles in these areas that are responsible for what I said
before, and are also responsible for causing some of the major pains that people have everyday,
’cause as we know, low back pain and neck pain are some of the most common things people
go to the ER for. So let’s just take a look at some of the muscles here and I’ll show
you how we can treat some of them. The first muscle we’re going to take a look at is the
iliopsoas. This is a major cause of low back pain in a lot of people. I’m going to show
you where it’s located. I’m going to show you how to treat it.
