How to not be nervous when selling products.

How to not be nervous when selling products.

(upbeat music) – This next speaker, I don’t know why I got so
lucky to introduce her, but I get to. She’s amazing, she has the confidence of a 40-year-old successful individual. She has the courage far beyond I have now or that I’ll ever I’d assume. She’s an amazing daughter of mine, and I love her to death. So welcome to the stage. Please give her all of your energy. Makayla Nina Prince. (upbeat rock music) – Hey am I on? Can you guys hear me? Perfect so first thing I wanna mention, my shoes. Better than my mom’s. Just gonna say. (laughing) And I’m sure a lot of you know who I am, but I’m going to share my story anyways. Is that okay with you guys? Perfect. But before I get started, I’m gonna share this quote with you guys. Click. Be bold and mighty forces
will come to your aid. Basil King. I was actually watching a show when I was supposed to
be writing this talk. And this quote came through the show, and I was like this is perfect! We all have to be bold
because we’re entrepreneurs and we have no idea what we’re doing. But we’ve just gotta be like, I can do this! Okay? So yes. Okay here is my story. When I was 13 and my sister was 10, our parents came up to us and was like, okay you
guys are sleeping in for way too long. We were sleeping in ’til noon. I thought it was fine. But, they were like, you either need to start a business, do more chores, or move out of the house. I was not gonna move out
of the house being 13. More chores just sounded like the worst thing in the entire universe. So, we started a business. And as you guys know, I sold scarves. I Scarf 2. And in our first nine months, we sold over 100 thousand dollars and it was crazy! (laughing) So we continued this through
all of junior high for me, and then ba bam! High school hit, I had no time to do this, but I wasn’t sure if
business was right for me. So I decided to try a
bunch of different things. I joined the marching band. I loved my time in the marching band. It was one of the most
amazing things I’ve ever done. I also do photography. I’ve been working on that. I’m in DECA. I am currently the DECA president. Yeah. And I took a bunch of medical classes. After my first medical
class I was in love. I wanted to be a nurse. I wanted to go travel the world and be able to help people live their life to the fullest in good health and everything and change their life. That’s what I wanted to do! I was so excited, I was taking all these medical classes, I took EMR because why not? And I’m now a certified
emergency medical responder. (laughing) But then, flu season came. Yeah, Bridgie, my sister
decided to get the flu. So we all had to go get our flu shots. Worst experience ever. We get there and I’m
like okay we got this. I’m gonna be a nurse. I have to show my brothers
that I can do this, because they were freaking out. They’re like I can’t do
this, I can’t do this. So I was like ‘k I’ll go first, I’ll be fine. I’m gonna be a nurse. Piece of cake. So the nurse wipes off my arm, pokes me with the needle, and as soon as she pokes me I’m like, I’m gonna pass out. But I didn’t say anything, ’cause I couldn’t tell my brothers because then they’d freak out. And as soon as she pulled the needle out, bam I was on the floor passed out. I came to, and my brothers were crying, freaking out. They were like I can’t do this. My mom was also freaking out like what just happened to my daughter. And my dad was laughing at me. He’s like wake up woman
it’s just a flu shot. So nursing was out. (laughing) Not gonna be a nurse anymore. Okay I have a question. What is every teenager’s favorite, but least favorite, time of the year? Back to school! We all, we love going shopping, getting new clothes, getting new things so we can look our best the first day of school. But, that means school’s starting so it’s not so good. This back to school season
was a little tricky for me, because marching band had
consumed my entire life, and I didn’t have time
to work on my business or make any money. So, my mom offered me
a job at Pick Your Plum just for a couple weeks. I worked eight dollars an hour. It was interesting, but I only worked for
eight dollars an hour. And I was like this is an issue. No matter how hard I work. I cannot get more than
eight dollars an hour. You think you should earn more
than eight dollars an hour, but you can’t. Because it’s set. So I worked a couple of weeks and I saved up all of my money. And we went back to school shopping. We went to Old Navy, and I was super excited. I found these amazing pants
that I was so excited to wear. I found this cute sweater, and I love sweaters. They are literally the most
perfect thing in the universe. It’s like your blanket with you, but it looks like a shirt
so you’re not judged for wearing a blanket. Fantastic. But I went, and I went to go check out, and it came to 90 dollars. 90 dollars for a pair
of pants and a sweater. I was like, that’s more than
half of what I had saved. So I was like ‘k whatever, that’s
what it’s worth these days. So I checked out, and I went outside to go show my mom. And I was like Mom look what I got. And she’s like Makayla are you okay? And I’m like yeah I’m fine. She’s like no you’re
having buyer’s regret. How many of you guys
have had buyer’s regret? It’s awful! So we went and returned my clothes. And that is when I realized this important fact. That you guys all need to remember. One of the important things
that I’m going to say today. Your time is worth a lot
more than your money. I was worth a lot more
than eight dollars an hour. My work was worth a lot more
than eight dollars an hour. So I also decided, business is for me! Yay! (laughing) I knew what I was gonna do with my life. Guys, we keep chasing money. Wanting all this money so we
can provide for our family, and give all these amazing gifts to our friends and everybody, and just shower people with gifts and pay our bills and everything. And I don’t know how paying bills works, but all of that stuff that adults have to deal with that I don’t. But money doesn’t solve everything. Your time is worth a lot more than money. We only have 24 hours in a day. And we actually only have
eight hours left today, and I thought I was going to be speaking a little bit earlier so it says nine. But we only have eight. Imagine what you guys
can do with eight hours. If you guys just stuck to and went through this you guys could contact
so many influencers. You could get so many
products up and going, you could design a new product, you could, sorry I’m a little excited. You could do so many amazing
things in eight hours. But you guys need to
set up your boundaries and fiercely protect your time. ‘Cause time makes memories not money. (laughing) Yeah! So say I wrote you guys a check for 25 thousand dollars. Or 50 thousand dollars. How many of you would take it? All of us would take it. I mean that’s a lot of money. But, say the only way you could get this check, is if you had to end your life right now. How many of you would take it? Nobody would take it. You guys already understand that your time is worth more than any amount of money in this entire world just by not taking that check. You will always, always
be able to make more money but you can never get time back. Spend your time wisely. It is our obligation to sell. We all have that one product
that has changed our life for the better. It was this simple little product that made dish washing easy, or laundry easy. Or something that’s so
much more easy in your life and so it didn’t take up so much time. But for this example, I’m gonna talk about your
wonderful cell phones. So these cell phones
have changed the world as we know it. We are no longer stuck to the wall trying to contact our loved ones and our friends and our family. But now we can pull out our phone and be like hey I’m okay I’m still alive, don’t worry about me. And we can’t leave our house, we can’t go anywhere without our phones, it’s changed our life so much. And if this person didn’t
sell this cell phone, who knows where we would be. Well actually we’d all probably
be stuck to the wall still. But, it has changed our
life so dramatically. And because this person sold it, we have done so much better. ClanCon. If my mom did not sell
you these ClanCon tickets, you guys would not be
here taking these tips you need to change your life. Changing your future for the better. You guys are doing all
of these amazing things. And ClanCon is just the next
step to changing your life. Your customers want you
to persuade them to buy. They want to be sold on your product. When I was getting ready for this, I was listening to a podcast on the Empire podcast show. And it was called why it is our obligation to relentlessly sell. They had some amazing points that I’m going to share with you guys, if that’s okay. Is that okay? – [Audience] Yeah! – Awesome! The first one was be relatable. So I tried to find the worst pictures that weren’t like double
chin and everything. But, being relatable, your customers want you to be relatable so they can trust you. Be the person that they understand. They want to see that you have been where they are. So they can trust you and
then eventually buy from you. And we all want them to buy from us right? So we can change their lives. And make money. Come with giving hands and a loving heart. A loving company makes a crazy difference. You always see those companies that are giving and care
for their customers. And it makes their company
seem more welcoming and warm and everything. And you always have those
companies that are like, here take my product
and give me your money, I don’t care what happens to you. And you always want to go
back to those companies that care for you and want you
to have the best experience. Do not take silence as a no. Just because they aren’t
responding to your videos or your ads, or your social
media posts, or anything, doesn’t mean they don’t want to have anything to do with you. Life is busy, they have
kids, they have husbands, they have wives, they have jobs. Everything is going on in their life. And we need to be okay with that. We also need to be there, being that squeaky wheel
is what they called it. And don’t be afraid to act up. And when you act up, do it in a good positive way. Giving them positive information, good information that
will benefit their lives, even if they’re not buying
from you right then. Be passionate about your
business and your product. We always love a business owner who’s passionate about something. Like my mom. We all love my mom, because she’s so passionate
about what she does. I don’t think you guys would be here if she wasn’t so dang passionate. Like I said earlier be the squeaky wheel. Don’t be afraid to make noise. But do it in a positive way. Be that squeaky wheel
that needs attention, but also, don’t be that one really annoying person that’s like hey you should buy this, you should buy this, you should buy this. We need to change our mindset, change our presets, to I don’t want to be a pest, to it is my obligation to sell. Chick-fil-a would never ever apologize for selling me my favorite meal. Would they? No, and I would never complain that they’re selling me this meal, because it’s fantastic. Remember, be a welcomed guest not an uninvited pest. Get your systems in place and remember, it is your obligation to sell. (laughing) (applause)
