Treating Muscular Back Pain

Treating Muscular Back Pain

My name is Steven Levin. I’m a Johns Hopkins Pain Management specialist
practicing at Howard County General Hospital. Muscular back pain is the most common cause
of back pain and it often results from strain injuries. It can also be present in patients with long
standing back pain and would be due to deconditioning or from compression or damage of nerves. The best way to treat muscular back pain is
physical therapy. We often use medication and in some cases
trigger point injections to aid in the recovery. A balanced exercise program along with proper
body mechanics, such as bending at the knees to lift, can be very helpful for preventing
this kind of pain from returning.
